INESC TEC is a private non-profit research institution, dedicated to scientific research and technological development, technology transfer, advanced consulting and training, and pre-incubation of new technology-based companies. As an institution operating at the interface of the academic and business worlds, bringing closer together academia, companies, public administration, and society, INESC TEC typically applies the knowledge and results generated as part of its research in technology transfer projects, seeking value creation and immediate social relevance. 715 researchers conduct this activity, from which 273 hold a PhD degree.
Under INESC TEC, 13 Centres are active in research, technology transfer, intellectual property and software licenses management, knowledge valorisation and launching of spin-off companies. Its main areas are Telecommunications and Multi-media, Power Systems, Manufacturing Systems, Industrial Management, Information and Computer Graphics
Systems, Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems, Robotics and Intelligent Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Real-Time Systems, Computer Science, Critical Software Systems and Innovation, Biomedical. The Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) is INESC TEC's main actor in the areas of electrical energy. The Unit employs close to 66 collaborators, including 23 PhD holders. It is internationally recognised for its expertise in problems relating to the integration of renewable energy in power systems, distributed generation and smart-grids, energy efficiency, gamification and ICT solutions development. The high level of expertise developed has allowed specialists at CPES to take on key roles in important EU projects as part of the successive framework programmes that led to notable scientific and technical advances with considerable impact on the industry. This has led to contracts for development and consultancy with companies manufacturing equipment, generation, transmission and distribution companies, regulators, government agencies and investors in Europe, South America, the United States of America and Africa.
INESC TEC, as project coordinator, will be the main responsible for the project management, dissemination, and exploitation plan. Accordingly, INESC TEC is the WP1 and WP7 leader. In addition, INESC TEC will participate in the development of several forecasting apps in WP3, namely, the net load forecast and the behaviour predictor. It will be also the responsible party for the scalability and replicability of the ICT-based platform for energy efficiency in WP6.
